Faithfully Funny Fridays

Right now Scientology is hot in World News.  Many often take for granted that this religion of celebrities and mysterious wealthy individuals is “respected” here in the United States.  So much so that we let the crazies be crazies so long as they don’t harm anyone.

This is not the case in France.  This “sect” has been convicted of fraud in an organized gang after two women alleged that the Church of Scientology was forcing them to… participate in the Church of Scientology.  In more detail, that means paying money for “purification,” “auditing,” and “vitamins.” Oh, wait, I meant vitamins.  They most certainly weren’t psychotropic drugs.

What I find most “funny” is that after TAKING OUT LOANS to buy the books, courses and treatments, one woman tried to “quit” her religion and get a refund on it.

Even the screenwriter/director of “Crash” and “Million Dollar Baby” had to write a letter to quit his former alliance with Scientology after learning of anti-gay marriage activity in California by a Scientologist group. Fortunately for us the internet missive was not securely transmitted.

Though not the most informative report (letter), the Irish Independent is definitely the most concise.  The words of [Scientology’s] founder, science-fiction author L Ron Hubbard, are apt: “You don’t get rich writing science fiction. If you want to get rich, you start a religion.”

The Vatican was, naturally, unavailable for comment.
